sustainability

Our new Rainrunner fabric has a PFC-free C0 DWR finish for high-performing, long-lasting water repellency and faster dry times. The PFC-free C0 DWR is made without short-chain PFCs, or perfluorinated chemistry also known as PFAS, which are part of a family of forever chemicals that have been used to create DWR finishes for decades, but can wash off of garments and remain in our watersheds for hundreds of years.

Janji has transitioned completely to using PFC-free C0 water repellency as part of our sustainable initiatives — we are proud to be 100% PFAS-free across our entire product line as of January 2023

Our Rainrunner fabric is bluesign® certified meaning it is free from harmful chemicals and is fabricated in a way that meets a high environmental standard.

Pretty good!

This jacket has nothing to do with cold weather but I like the way it fits and especially the shape and fit of the hood. Nice color!

Good customer service

I bought this jacket a couple weeks ago. Haven’t worn it out yet so can’t comment on that. My review focuses on customer service. The jacket is currently on sale. I figured that since I’m still within the return window, the company would honor the sale price and give me the discount instead of making me return and buy a new one. But when I asked, I received a curt response that it had been “too long” and I needed to return. After a few bumps the CEO personally reached out to me to apologize and ensure that they would use this experience as a way to improve customer service. He also gave me the discount.

It’s pretty rare for a CEO to reach out to an individual customer like that, so I have to give them props.

Great waterproof coating

Ran in a light to moderate rain for 1.5 hours straight with no water soaking through. Kept me completely dry. Also kept me warm (it was 6 degrees C while I ran) with two base layers. I'd probably opt for 1 base layer next time, but the venting helped manage the sweat well. I was nervous after reading the other review that the waterproofing would be less sufficient with the new DWR used by Janji, but it held up well. Nice to know that it is PFC-free as well

Rainrunner 2.0? Why downgrade the fabric?

What's up with the change in water repellency, Janji? Not sure how you can call this version 2.0 when you took a step backwards. Original rainrunner was composed of 30k fabric, the new 2.0 only 20k (for both breathability and water repellency). The jacket ended up wetting through after 30 mins in a light rain. Sad part is I sold my original rainrunner which was nothing less than amazing. Janji is marketed as a premium running clothing company, please use premium fabrics in your products without cutting corners. At $200 bucks, there are far better options on the market.

Hi there - we're sorry to hear that your new Rainrunner didn't meet your expectations and we want to share the context behind the change in the water repellency rating. The 2.0 version is 20K/20K due to our upgrading the waterproof treatment to be PFC-free. While the C6 DWR used in the previous version was more waterproof, it’s worse for the environment and for people. The reason PFAS is so commonly used is that it is really effective - unfortunately those benefits don’t outweigh the long-term human and environmental risks of using PFAS. We’ve moved to a C0 DWR treatment, which does not use PFAS chemistry and provides sufficient water repellency in most cases.
